Canandaigua’s proposed budget cuts spending but raises taxes

Canandaigua homeowners could see a tax increase in 2025 under the city’s proposed budget.

For a home valued at $385,000, the annual tax bill could rise from $947 to $1,140 if a $6.2 million project to rebuild North Road is approved. The tax rate would increase from $2.46 to $2.96 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Despite the tax hike, spending is expected to decline slightly, from $16.63 million in 2024 to $16.56 million. Revenue sources include 51% from sales taxes and 8% from property taxes.

Major expenses include vehicles, replacement of fire hydrants, water meters and funding for the reconstruction of the Route du Nord, as well as increased staffing and infrastructure improvements.
