Two weeks ago, I stopped at the Hy-Vee grocery store on Pioneers Boulevard in Lincoln. I had spent the day coming back from meeting with the Nebraskans to North Platte, Kearney and Grand Island – a long day on Interstate 80.

As I walked in, an older man recognized me and told me his story. He had lived well, paid his taxes on time and paid into Social Security his entire life. But now those fixed incomes bought less milk, fewer eggs, and virtually no more beef.

This was not the future he expected. I thanked him for his thoughts, and as he walked away he said, “Oh, and can you too fix the damn border?”

All Americans, and Nebraskans in particular, don’t need much to be happy. We take care of ourselves and we work hard. But we expect a safe place to raise a family and a fair chance to make a decent living — or at least enough to pay for housing, food and the occasional Huskers game.

MCCONNELL AND GOP DESCEND ON NEBRASKA TO SAVE DEB FISCHER’S DANGER SENATE SEAT

When my husband Bruce and I raised our family on the family ranch in Cherry County, things were different. Raising a family is hard work, but groceries were more affordable and we knew the police would keep the streets safe, while the best military in the world would protect our borders and our freedoms.

But as everyone now knows, including the gentleman in the Hy-Vee parking lot, this is no longer the America we live in.

Nebraska families today pay about $1,140 more per month for essentials than they did just four years ago. We all experience difficulties at the checkout, when paying our heating bill or when we are forced to choose between new school supplies and paying off our mortgage. But when you put a monetary value on it, the loss is staggering. Each A Nebraska family took a pay cut of at least $13,000 this year, compared to four years ago, and they did nothing to deserve it.

DARK MONEY GROUP LINKED TO SOROS SUPPORTS NEBRASKA INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE IN KEY SENATE RACE

Over the past four years, approximately five times the population of the entire state of Nebraska has flowed into the United States – the vast majority across our southern border. Some say illegal immigration is a victimless crime. What’s the problem?

Try telling that to Americans who have seen the effects of an open border on communities — sons and daughters lost to drug overdoses or violent crime, fathers and mothers who can’t get ahead at work. because illegal immigrants work for less money under the table. , or the hospitals and other social services that are now forced to care for people who aren’t even supposed to be here in the first place.

Over the past four years, the world has gone from a largely safe and stable place to one that is literally on fire. Israel is fighting for his life, but America is not on their side. China is expanding its commercial influence and strengthening its military, but we are not keeping pace. Russia is taking advantage of weak American leadership, and other states will soon follow. The entire world that American leadership, power and commerce have built over the past 80 years is beyond our control.

This is not the America – or the world – that I want my grandchildren to grow up in.

TRUMP HAS MOMENTUM, JUST LIKE THE SENATE GOP

When I first ran for Senate, I promised that I would not be another talking head on television, another Washington pony. Nebraska deserved a workhorse, so I put my head down and got the job done. And I can honestly tell you today that I kept my word for the state I love.

During my years in public life, I have invested $4 billion in repairing highways and local roads, rebuilding bridges, ensuring clean drinking water, and upgrading airports, including the Airfield. ‘Eppley to Omaha and Lincoln Airport.

I pushed for more funding for our troopsand I passed defense bills to reverse decades of decline in American military power. I have also supported Nebraska’s role in keeping America safe, fighting for improvements not only to our intercontinental ballistic missiles in the western part of the state, but also to Offutt Air Force Base, in the east.

And I have voted repeatedly to secure our border – despite all the good it has brought under this administration.

I worked with President Trump to pass better trade deals for our producers, and I passed farm bills to preserve the future of family farms and ranches for the next generation.

I voted against outrageous spending and regulations that fueled inflation. And I passed a law that would have reduced the cost of transportation by keep grocery prices low – but President Biden vetoed it.

Working with Omaha law enforcement, I passed legislation this year to make it easier to recruit and retain police officers so the streets are safer for our children. And I passed the nation’s first-ever paid family leave law so we don’t have to choose between earning a living and taking care of these children.

Despite all of these things, I find myself in the same situation as the man outside Hy-Vee – heartbroken about the current state of this nation and deeply concerned about the future.

But with new leadership in Washington, God willing, we will reverse America’s decline this November.

My name is Deb Fischer. I’m asking Nebraskans to vote so we can change the course of this country. I ask for their trust and support so that we can build the future our children and grandchildren deserve – not the one we are heading towards.
