Independent family-owned grocery store Rupena’s Fine Foods prepares to celebrate 100 years

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – Tajma Hall highlights the impact of Rupena’s fine foodsa neighborhood grocery store preparing to celebrate 100 years of service to the community.

With the rise of big box stores over the past decade, many neighborhood grocery stores have ceased to exist, but in West Allis you’ll find Rupena’s Fine Foods still standing. The family store is preparing to take an important step in its business.

Maria Rupena runs the store, which has been in her family for decades. Over the years, the family has had to adapt and get creative to maintain their business. Maria played an important role in some of the more recent addictions.

Adding a family touch helps keep things warm here and Maria says it’s what keeps them connected with their customers.

“We’ve created a warmer, but very welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Everyone who walks through the door becomes our family,” she said.

The goal now is to add an event room where they can host catered events and help drive business.

“Since COVID. It’s very hard for us. Don’t forget us because I want to reach 100,” she said.
Maria just hopes the community continues to support her.
