Alex Jones says Infowars could shut down and everything will be auctioned off

Alex Jones says his Infowars media empire could soon close as he prepares to sell his company’s assets at an auction.

The radio show host said Monday that unless the “good guys” buy out Infowars and its parent company, Free Speech Systems, he may no longer be able to continue broadcasting his show and website, known for promoting conspiracy theories.

Jones’ money problems stem from of nearly $1.5 billion he was ordered to pay the families of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in lawsuits in Connecticut and Texas after falsely claiming in his show Infowars that the attack – which left 26 dead, including 20 children – was a hoax, and that the grieving parents were “crisis actorsJones has since admitted that the shooting took place and appealed the rulings, the Associated Press reported.

A court-ordered auction of Jones’ company assets will take place Wednesday, where items such as the Infowars studio office, video archives and even an armored truck will be available for auction. Roger Stone, ally of Donald Trump would be among those interested in buying Infowars and allowing it to operate as normal, with Jones’ critics wanting to shut down the site or completely transform it from its current brand.

Jones said on his show Monday that auctioneers were in the building that day marking items such as tables and microphones. He also pledged to continue broadcasting on another format if his Infowars site were to be shut down.

News week contacted Infowars and Roger Pierre for comments by email.

“That’s how tight it is,” Jones said. “Now the good guys are saying they’re going to buy it. OK, they’re the good guys. They’re buying it. Who knows if they’re really good guys once they buy it, we have to see.

“If the bad guys buy this in less than 48 hours, I’ll keep broadcasting until they show up,” Jones added. “I’m going to stay on the air until the last minute, because we don’t stop, and then I’m going to get on the new ship and continue.”

Jones, who shared the clip of him discussing the auction on X, formerly Twitteraccompanied by the caption: “BREAKING: Infowars will close its doors on Wednesday— Alex Jones Answers.”

In a follow-up post, Jones wrote: “There is a typo in this headline. Infowars could be shut down on Wednesday if a hostile buyer puts it into action. Infowars will continue if the good guys manage to win the auction.”

In another video posted online, Jones added that even if Infowars closes, he will find success elsewhere, the same way Tucker Carlson started broadcasting on X after leaving Fox News.

“All you leftists celebrating the end of Alex Jones and Infowars are fools. Just watch,” he said. “God, I can’t imagine how this is going to blow up in your face. If you fail, America wins.”

The auction stems from Jones’ personal bankruptcy case, which he filed in late 2022. His personal assets are also being liquidated to help pay damages resulting from the Sandy Hook judgments. The deadline to submit bids for Infowars’ assets was Friday. Those deemed qualified must participate in the auction on Wednesday. Unsold items will be resold at another auction in December, according to the Associated Press.

Progressive media sites such as The Barbed Wire and Media Matters for America had previously expressed interest in taking over Infowars.

In September, The Barbed Wire publisher Jeff Rotkoff urged his readers to donate to help buy Infowars and turn it into a site that debunks misinformation and conspiracy theories.

Rotkoff told The Associated Press that it is now unlikely the site will make a bid to take over the Jones site.

“But we have spoken with a number of like-minded bidders and we are confident we will be outbid,” Rotkoff said.

“We are pleased that there appear to be several well-resourced bidders who share our interest in undoing much of the damage done to our country by Alex Jones. We will encourage these individuals to succeed.”

Angelo Carusone, president of Media Matters for America, told Semafor in September: “We are diligently considering this acquisition. »

Jones’ X account, which has more than 3 million followers, is not up for sale in the auction, although further court rulings are expected.
