Officials representing ELCITA spoke to reporters on the matter and said the initiative addresses the growing need for connectivity among daily commuters, especially IT professionals and industry employees residing in South Korea. Bengaluru. It also seeks to promote sustainable travel by reducing the reliance on private vehicles and encouraging environmentally friendly alternatives, the report notes.

This is not the first effort to improve connectivity on the 25km route. In 2021, ELCITA introduced four free feeder buses when Silk Institute Metro Station began operations. These buses are used by 150 to 180 commuters daily. With the addition of the BMTC electric bus, ridership is expected to reach around 300 passengers per day, the publication added.

Buses follow a fixed schedule. ELCITA buses depart Silk Institute Metro Station at 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 9:10 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with return services departing Electronics City in the evening at 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. :8 p.m. Meanwhile, the BMTC bus departs at 8:15 am and 5:15 pm for morning and evening services respectively, the report further said.

An ELCITA spokesperson explained that although the company initially offered paid services through BMTC, the plan failed. Instead, ELCITA chose to charter an electric bus from BMTC under a two-month casual contract costing over 6 million. The service is, however, expected to cease once the yellow metro line from RV Road to Bommasandra becomes operational, the publication said.

To further improve connectivity, ELCITA has proposed six additional service routes from Konappana Agrahara and Infosys metro stations to connect commuters to the upcoming Yellow Line.
