Rep. Johnson talks Republican trifecta in Washington

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – More than two weeks have passed since the presidential election, and after Donald Trump was named president-elect, the question remained, which party would gain the majority in the House?

Each party needed 218 seats to win a majority of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives.

On Wednesday, Republicans reached that magic number and have now swept Washington DC with majorities in the House, Senate and presidency.

South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson said President-elect Trump has a vision of unlocking American energy, securing the southern border and much more. He went on to say that voters’ decision to have a Republican trio would help achieve those goals.

“They made a clear decision to have Republicans tackle these major issues, and we will have the tools to do it. Obviously, there is still a filibuster in the Senate. There will be times when you need to reach 60 votes in the Senate. There will be times when you have to find common ground on both sides of the aisle,” Johnson said.

Johnson added that there is a great feeling that now is the time to do important things for America, and he is excited to be a part of it.
