ACE 2024: discover and test the new Mitsubishi Triton and Xpander facelift – buy and get RM3k vouchers

Big launches don’t come around often with Mitsubishi, but we had two back to back recently. First, the Xpander facelift was revealed in September, and less than a month later, MMM pulled the curtains back on the all new Triton van. These two new faces meet on the diamond brand’s ACE 2024 stand.

Let’s start with the Triton. This is the sixth generation of Mitsubishi pickup truck and the third to use the Triton name here. A total of five variants are available, from the new Triton Single Cab to the top-of-the-range and fully equipped Triton Athlete with more power. The single cab is a new variant of the Triton in Malaysia – the previous workhorse was the Quest, a low-slung double cab.

Now with a new square-shaped body, the Triton has grown in size: it was among the smallest in the van segment, but is now one of the largest in its class. The truck is powered by the new 2.4-liter Hyperpower 4N16 turbodiesel with 184 hp/430 Nm, with the athlete getting a higher output of 204 hp/470 Nm, which is 20 hp/40 Nm more than the previous top of the line. range thanks to a sequential twin turbo layout. All details and specifications in our launch report.

The Xpander facelift is a refresh of Malaysia’s best-selling non-domestic MPV, which has sold an average of almost 10,000 units per year since its debut here in late 2020.

We’re looking at a fairly significant facelift dominated by a bolder Dynamic Shield fascia with T-shaped side lower headlights (projector LEDs) and thicker chrome bars. At the rear, you’ll find new taillights with headlight-mimicking graphics, as well as a more angular rear bumper with vertical reflectors around the edges. New 17-inch blade-shaped two-tone alloys (one inch larger) complete the exterior changes.

The Plus variant is distinguished by silver trim on the lower sections of the front and rear bumper, as well as the side skirts (versus full black). There’s also a prominent tailgate spoiler and door visors on the top end.

Inside, there’s a new, more upright dashboard with brown synthetic leather trim with stitching (also on the door cards), a standalone infotainment touchscreen, and a new (simpler) steering wheel with a round horn cushion. Also new are the digital climate control display and electronic parking brake with automatic hold. The latter replaces the pre-facelift car’s handbrake, freeing up space for a front center armrest without sacrificing the cupholders. Turn it over and you will find a practical tissue holder.

As practical as ever, with the three rows of seats raised, boot space is relatively decent and there is also storage under the floor. Under the hood is a familiar 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 105 hp and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Power from the 4A91 DOHC MIVEC unit is sent to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic gearbox. All details and specifications in our launch report.

Come and try these two new Mitsubishis for size and if all goes well, buy at ACE 2024 to receive a combined RM3,000 voucher from paultan.org.
