Yellow warning as snow is possible in some counties and temperatures fall across the country – The Irish Times

Snow and sleet are expected to fall in parts of the country Monday evening as temperatures drop sharply nationwide.

With Éireann has issued a weather warning for the whole country and is forecasting sub-zero temperatures for Monday evening, with parts of Ulster and Connacht expected to experience the coldest conditions.

A yellow snow and ice warning has been issued for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal and Leitrim, which may experience accumulating snow and icy conditions. A yellow weather warning is also in place for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry, where snow and icy surfaces could make traveling conditions difficult Monday afternoon, evening and throughout the night until Tuesday morning .

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has asked road users to prepare for dangerous conditions on roads and footpaths from today Monday, in light of the weather advisory.

Rain will be widespread across most of the country during the day, before changing to sleet or snow in parts of the country. Ulster and to the north Connacht. Afternoon temperatures will range between 3 and 5 degrees in Ulster and between 7 and 12 degrees elsewhere.

Overnight, widespread rain will continue, with sleet and snow forecast across Ulster and northern Connacht, “with accumulations possible, particularly over the hills”, Met Éireann said.

Frost and ice will develop in northern parts of Ulster overnight, with lowest temperatures expected between -1 and 5 degrees, coldest in Ulster and Connacht.

On Tuesday there will likely be more widespread sleet and sleet. Forecasters said “rain, sleet and snow” would fall early Tuesday and move south in the afternoon.

Some clearing is expected after these falls, although there will be “scattered wintry showers” in the north.

Highest temperatures on Tuesday will generally be between 3 and 6 degrees, with slightly warmer temperatures expected in Munster.

The outlook for the remainder of the week is cold – icy and icy conditions are expected, with further “wintry showers”.

Tuesday and Wednesday evening will see temperatures still below freezing, with minimum temperatures ranging from -3 to 1 degree. Parts of Ulster and Connacht will be the coldest, with wintry showers expected to continue.

The overnight frost will take time to thaw on Thursday, Met Éireann said, “possibly persisting throughout the day in some areas”.

There will be some sunshine on Thursday, but the north and west will see more scattered showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow.
