Gujarat Titans quickly established itself by winning the initial loading trophy in their first season. They are now preparing for the IPL 2025 mega auction with a clear vision and a solid financial situation.
The auction, scheduled for November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is expected to be a fierce competition between teams looking to reshape their rosters.

BREAKING & LIVE: Final retentions #IPL 2025 at 5:30 p.m.

The journey of Gujarat Titans has been full of ups and downs. After their IPL 2022 victory under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, they reached another final in 2023. However, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth title with a thrilling last-ball victory.
The 2024 season saw Hardik Pandya join Mumbai Indians and Shubman Gil taking over as captain of the Gujarat Titans. The team faced challenges without key players Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami.
They finished eighth in the table, with only five wins from 14 matches. With the addition of Parthiv Patel as assistant coach and strategic guidance from head coach Ashish Nehra, the team is determined to rebuild a strong squad capable of excelling at the world’s largest cricket stadium in India.
Ahead of the IPL auction, Shubman Gill agreed to a reduced salary to stay with the Gujarat Titans, as reported by TimesofIndia.com.
Their retention strategy prioritized key players. Star spinner Rashid Khan was their first retention, followed by Gill, Sai Sudharsan and uncapped players Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan.
The team has a Right to Match (RTM) card that they can use to retain an additional team member during the mega-auction. Gill, recognized for his potential as a future leader of Indian cricket, has put up some impressive performances in his IPL career so far.
The 25-year-old has played 103 IPL matches, averaging close to 38 and a strike rate of 129. However, Gujarat Titans have taken the decision to release ace Indian Pacer, Mohammed Shami, who is currently recovering of an injury. .
The Gujarat Titans have allocated their retention funds as follows:

  • Retention 1: Rashid Khan for INR 18 crore
  • Retention 2: Shubman Gill for INR 16.50 crore
  • Retention 3: Sai Sudharsan for INR 8.50 crore
  • Retention 4: Rahul Tewatia for INR 4 crore
  • Retention 5: Shahrukh Khan for INR 4 crore

These retentions, totaling INR 51 crore, will be deducted from their total purse of INR 120 crore for the IPL 2025 auction.
The IPL Governing Body’s player regulations allow franchises to retain a maximum of six players from their previous team. This includes a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players. Teams can choose to retain players either directly or via the Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction.
With INR 69 crore remaining in their purse, the Gujarat Titans have to fill a minimum of 13 slots, with a maximum of seven foreign players allowed. Using their RTM card to retain Mohammed Shami is a possibility, or they could look for another key Indian bowler. This bowler would ideally be able to bowl in the powerplay and bowl a few overs in the death overs. Addressing hitter David Miller’s loss of power is another priority. They will be looking for a foreign player capable of filling this finisher role.
Gujarat Titans have their opening combination with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Their current goal is to find a reliable middle-order hitter who can anchor the innings, a role previously filled by Kane Williamson.
In their bowling attack, Rashid Khan will lead the spin department. The team will focus on finding a complementary bowler to support them at the other end. While Tewatia offers a versatile spin-bowling option, the Titans are also aiming to get a speed-bowling all-rounder, similar to the role previously played by Hardik Pandya.
