Police searching for a woman missing for almost a week have discovered a body.

Joanne Jones, 49, had been missing from her home in Pontypridd since Monday.

Her body was discovered on Saturday evening and she is now formally identified.

Ms Jones’ next of kin and the coroner have been informed, South Wales » said the police.

Extensive research was carried out, involving several agencies. CCTV footage was also shared as part of an appeal to find Ms Jones, who was last seen wearing a green coat, walking boots and a black rucksack.

His family thanked emergency services and members of the local community who helped with the search throughout the week.

They have now asked for privacy so they can begin to come to terms with their loss.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Hampton said she wanted to express her sympathies to Ms Jones’ family “in what is a very sad time for them”.

“I would also like to thank our emergency service colleagues and members of the public who have contributed to our search efforts over the past week,” she said.

“I can also confirm that we are not treating Joanne’s death as suspicious.”
