Newport ready to test Grimsby record at Rodney Parade

Newport County will know what to expect when Grimsby Town’s away days specialists arrive at Rodney Parade.

Dave Artell’s side have collected five wins in their last five away matches in Ligue 2.

And only table-toppers Port Vale have a better travel record in fourth place than the Mariners.

This has helped them qualify for the play-offs as they head to South Wales five points clear of their hosts.

But Newport boss Nelson Jardim says the difference is the result of small margins – and hopes home advantage can count for the county.

“Grimsby are a very organised, compact and successful team,” he said. “In terms of goals scored and conceded, they are very similar to us.”

Both scored 19 points and Newport only shipped one more at the other end, and Jardim added: “The fact that they are five points above us shows the small margins in this league .

“We are expecting a tough game, but we have shown that we can be good at home. They have a lot of points away and our home form is better than away, but every game has its own history.

“We know that home games are huge for us and the support we have is a big factor. We are expecting a tough game but we are ready for it.”
