Electric boats seem to be the next big thing in the world of electric vehiclesand a company seeks to follow the Tesla model in its quest to electrify America’s waterways.

According to the Associated PressArc Boats, an electric boat company established in 2021, is starting with high-end luxury boats tailored to an affluent clientele, with plans to expand to a wider customer base in the future.

Gasoline boats can be difficult to maintain, they can be expensive hundreds of dollars a day for gas, they are noisy and emit fumes. Arc Boats and its CEO Mitch Lee are looking to attract people to electric boats that have none of these problems.

The company follows the model presented by Tesla. The company launched its first vehicle, the Roadster, in 2008, with a price ranging from $80,000 to $125,000but it now sells vehicles for as little as $40,000.

Like a Tesla or many other electric vehicles, Lee views his new boat as a giant computer that you can drive. It will have displays, sensors, Wi-Fi and software that can be updated remotely, and one day it may be able to dock itself.

Buyers even have the option of personalize their boat and add accessories.

Even if the electric boat market only represents a tiny part of the market electric car walk – around $5 billion in 2021 for the boat market compared to 250 billion dollars in 2023 for the automotive market – advances in the automotive sector in recent years have created a supply chain for parts needed to manufacture electric boats, which is expected to drive down costs.

Arc Boats currently offers models more than $250,000but that could change.

“Over time, we expect our technology to be cheaper,” Lee said of Arc Sport. “There are a lot of favorable winds here.”

Lee, praising the qualities of the Arc Sport compared to gasoline boats, told the AP“It’s quieter. It’s a lot more reliable. It’s a lot cheaper to operate. You’re not inhaling the fumes from the back of the boat.”

Grant Jeide, Arc Boats sales team member, said after spending time wakeboarding behind the boat, “It’s like a playground out there, you feel like you could ride all day.”
