Gloucestershire council car parks generate £112,000 in fines

More than 4,800 parking fines were issued to drivers parked in municipal car parks in one city last year, according to official figures.

Gloucester City Council generated £111,800 from fines, although the number of drivers received with parking tickets fell by almost 2,000 last year compared to 2022.

On average, 13 fines per day were imposed in 2023, compared to 18 in 2022, and these sanctions led to a reduction in revenue from parking enforcement for the municipality.

Gloucester City Council declined to comment.

Sam Sheehan, automotive editor at Cinch, the company that analyzed the data, said the figures should serve as a “reminder” to all drivers to check nearby signs before parking.

“No one wants to get a parking fine in their mailbox,” he said.

“Also, if you think the fine is unfair or incorrect, remember you have 28 days to appeal to an independent tribunal.

“And if that’s correct, you may be able to reduce the fine by paying as soon as possible.” »

Gloucester City Council is responsible for 14 car parks providing around 1,905 parking spaces across the city.
