POLL: Should Mike and Zara Tindall become royals? | Royal | News

Since their marriage in 2011, Zara and Mike Tindall have become one of the royal family’s power couples.

Although Zara, 43, has no official royal title, as decided by her mother, Princess Anne, she is often spotted with her former rugby player husband, 46, at royal events, including the king’s coronation and Christmas walks at Sandringham.

However, with their popularity often skyrocketing, especially when they provide glimpses of their beloved lifestyle, questions have been raised about whether they should become royals.

As well as being parents to their three children, the couple have their own businesses, with British Olympian Zara still spending time horse racing and former rugby legend Mike co-hosting his own podcast. The couple are also active parents and are raising their children Mia, 10, Lena, six, and Lucas, three, at their home on the Gatcombe estate, where Princess Anne also lives.

But do you think it’s time for the couple to become royals? Vote in the poll below or by clicking here.

Despite being the niece of the king and the granddaughter of the late queen, Zara never had a royal title. In an interview in the run-up to Princess Anne’s 70th birthday last year, Anne said not giving titles to Zara or her son Peter “was probably the right thing to do”.

She said: “I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would say there are downsides to holding securities.”

Zara herself had also explained that not having an official title of Her Royal Highness allowed her to lead a more “normal” life growing up, unlike that of some of her cousins.

In a 2015 interview with New Zealand newspaper 1 News, she said: “My brother and I both had great lives growing up because we didn’t have our titles.

“I think my life is just more normal – a more normal way of growing up. We were able to travel and fit in and do normal things. Our parents owe a lot to that.”

Other royal parents have chosen to make the same decision for their children, with Prince Edward – the king’s brother – and Duchess Sophie deciding not to give their children royal titles at birth. This means the children are entitled to more privacy, and their daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 21, can enjoy her time at the University of St Andrews more freely.

Zara and Mike Tindall are not believed to have been asked to fill in for senior royals on any occasion, despite the health problems faced by the king and his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, this year.
