Antonio Pierce provides update on Las Vegas Raiders running back situation

The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to move the ball over the last season and a half.

Even when they had what was considered one of the best running backs in the National Football League, they struggled to pass the ball. The Silver and Black have a new offensive coordinator, starting quarterback, offensive scheme, running backs and many new offensive linemen. Yet they failed to move the ball.

Zamir White began the season as the team’s starting running back this season. However, after struggling against offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s offense and dealing with an injury, White was unfairly blamed for the team’s rushing issues, even though the Raiders struggled last season with Josh Jacobs and struggled to pass the ball with running back Alexander Mattison. this season.

While Mattison is undoubtedly a better fit for Getsy’s offense, he has also struggled. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said Mattison will remain the team’s starting running back, but he hasn’t forgotten about White and what he brings.

“I think (Alexander) Mattison is still the starter, but we have to move Zamir (White) forward,” Pierce said.
“I mean, Zamir, I hate to keep referencing, but last year we saw a lot of positive things from Zamir and we saw some earlier in this season. I think he needs to get out of the funk too. I know those early fumbles really hit him and then he got hurt, but it’s always good when we get him down. I mean, he’s a great gentleman who’s physical, and obviously I don’t think you’ll ever see a running back of that. You look at the whole league, and everyone uses two backs. »

“We just have to move (the whites) forward,” Pierce said. “Two, three runs, in and out of the lineup. You have to get into the flow, everyone has to get into the flow of the game. And then sometimes the flow doesn’t allow it, but we have to find ways to ‘Get it in the game and keep it in’.

Pierce noted that the coaching staff and offensive line need to do a better job of helping White get into the flow of the game. While Pierce’s approach is admirable, there are deeper reasons why White has struggled this season. This doesn’t fit well into Getsy’s offense, and the offensive line struggles to block. It’s also difficult to pass the ball when playing from behind, which the Raiders have done for much of the season.
