Los Angeles voters will vote on six charter amendments, including changes to the controversial city redistricting process as well as reorganize the city’s ethics commission.

“The Los Angeles City Charter defines, among other things, the powers and duties of municipal departments, offices and elected officials,” writes journalist Dakota Smith. “Voters have approved 29 charter amendments since 2000, the last time a new charter took effect.”

The drawing of the new boundaries of the 15 city council districts gave rise to power plays, self-serving transactions and even score-settling at city hall.
