Amit Shah gives thumbs up for Vikrant Massey-Starrer “The Sabarmati Report”

The truth cannot be “hidden forever in the darkness”, Home Minister Amit Shah stressed on Monday, echoing what Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the day before, praising the film by Vikrant Massey, “The Sabarmati Report”, set in the aftermath of the Godhra train fire. incident that occurred in 2002.

The incident triggered communal riots in Gujarat that claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims. Prime Minister Modi was then the chief minister of the state.

“No matter how hard a powerful ecosystem tries, it cannot keep the truth hidden in the dark forever. The film #SabarmatiReport challenges the ecosystem with unprecedented courage and exposes the truth behind this fateful episode into the open “, Mr. Shah posted on X.

Last week, Vikrant Massey, the lead actor, said he had received death threats on social media, but he is not worried because his film is “purely based on facts”.

Balaji Motion Pictures, which financed the film, emphasizes that the film is “inspired by true events”.

On Sunday, PM Modi said a false narrative can only persist for a limited period of time, referring to the film.

“It is a good thing that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way that common people can see it,” PM Modi said, adding, “A false narrative can persist only for a period of time In the end, the facts will always come out.

The film earned over Rs 8 crore at the box office in its first weekend, the makers announced today.

“The story of truth continues proudly at the box office and we are grateful,” the creators said.

At the trailer launch of the film, filmmaker Ektaa Kapoor spoke about why she decided to tell the story to the audience.

She shared that the film discusses all aspects of the Godhra train fire incident that occurred on February 27, 2002 and attempts to bring out the unknown facts about the tragic incident and its genesis.

“I tell the story of its genesis. Pehla Pahlu (first aspect) – without harming the other pehloos (aspects). Unfortunately, this Pehlu, how it all began, has not been reported enough. That’s why we decided to tell you how it started without calling into question what happened afterwards. This doesn’t mean that if you tell one story you undermine the other. It’s not just about one side. It’s pretty much how it all started, it’s very different,” Ms Kapoor said.

The film also stars Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna.
