Anticipation for Mike Tyson’s heavyweight fight against Jake Paul is at an all-time high with the fight just over a week away.

It has continued to develop since the fight was first announced in Marchbut a four-month delay from the original fight date only increased fans’ appetites.

The fight was scheduled for July 20, but about six weeks before the scheduled fight, Tyson had an ulcer flare-up on a flight to Los Angeles that left him hospitalized. Tyson quickly recovered, but was forced to slow down his training camp, ultimately forcing the fight to go ahead. postponed to November 15.

Netflix’s three-part documentary series “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson” gave a behind-the-scenes look as Tyson recovered from his injury and returned to training.

Why was the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight postponed?

For Tyson, the warning signs were apparent before he boarded his flight from Miami to Los Angeles. He had started to feel a difference in his training, which until then had progressed smoothly.

“A week and a half ago, I was training and I was doing great, and then all of a sudden I started feeling tired,” Tyson said in the documentary. “And I was explaining to my coach, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

Tyson, 58 years old, would have suffered the push about 30 minutes before the plane landed. He initially felt nauseous and dizzy, before more serious warning signs began to appear.

“Coming from Miami on the plane, I went to the bathroom and vomited blood. The next time I was on the floor…” Tyson said. “So I came (to the hospital), they said I had a big ulcer two and a half inches, it was bleeding. All my friends were calling me like I was dying.”

For Paul, who has long idolized Tyson, the news came as a shock.

“I consider Mike Tyson a killer, so I didn’t really expect something like this,” he said in the documentary.

Tyson said that as a result of his injury he lost 26 pounds, but despite this he managed to return to full training by the end of summer. Tyson has not faced any additional medical complications as his training camp continues, led by longtime trainer and Cus D’Amato product Billy White.

“God, I want to fight and start training,” Tyson said in his hospital room. “I don’t want to die in a hospital room, I want to die in the ring.”

Tyson’s return to the ring will be his first fight since an exhibition bout against fellow Hall of Fame boxer Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. The fight will be streamed live on Netflix, free to all subscribers, from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Providing the main support for Paul vs. Tyson is a highly anticipated rematch between two of the greatest female fighters of all time, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serranoas they fight for Taylor’s undisputed junior welterweight titles.
