The Delhi Transport Department has asked vehicle owners in the National Capital Territory to affix colored stickers on their vehicles to help identify fuel types to combat rising pollution levels.

According to a public notice issued by the ministry, the directive is in line with the Supreme Court order dated August 12, 2018 and subsequent amendments to Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Vehicle owners in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi will now have to install chrome-based holographic stickers, the advisory said.

Color-coded stickers are designed to help law enforcement personnel visually identify a vehicle’s fuel type during traffic stops.

The rule applies to both new vehicles, in force from April 1, 2019, and old vehicles, registered before March 31, 2019. Vehicle owners must ensure that the stickers are affixed to their windshield. breaks to comply with legal requirements, the press release said.

Owners of older vehicles are advised to contact their respective automobile dealers for installation of the stickers, it said.

Additionally, an online booking service is available for home installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) as well as fuel-based color coded stickers through the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers website (SIAM) or via the portal of the Ministry of Transport, indicates the press release. said.

Non-compliance will attract penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act and its rules, and vehicle owners are urged to act quickly to avoid prosecution and ensure their vehicles meet regulatory standards, adds- he.

The stickers contain details such as the registration number, registration authority, a laser-marked PIN code as well as the vehicles’ engine and chassis numbers.
