Roads and railways closed as Storm Bert hits the Midlands

Roads have been closed and transport disrupted after Storm Bert caused disruption across the Midlands.

A man had to be rescued from his car in Walsall on Saturday evening and West Midlands Fire Brigade warned people not to drive through floodwaters.

Roads across Herefordshire of which the B4203 to Bromyard and the B4521 to Broad Oak have closed and the Kyre Brook at Tenbury Wells rose, causing flooding in the Worcestershire town.

The Birmingham to Shrewsbury rail line is blocked due to flooding on the tracks and services between Birmingham Snow Hill and Stratford-upon-Avom are disrupted. The line is also blocked between Worcester Foregate Street and Hereford.

The A49 is closed in both directions between the B4371 Church Stretton and the A4103 Holmer due to significant flooding and Frankwell Main and Riverside car parks in Shrewsbury are closed due to rising river levels.

The Environment Agency has issued 23 flood warnings and more than 45 flood alerts across the West Midlands, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.

A yellow wind warning is in place until the end of Sunday, which could cause disruption.
