Meeting for interested athletes taking place this evening (October 30)

The first stages of building the Isle of Man athletics team for the 2025 Island Games take place this evening (October 30).

A meeting will take place this evening at 7pm at the Manx Harriers clubhouse at the NSC for anyone interested in being part of the team which travels to Orkney from July 12-18 next year.

Coaches and parents are also invited to attend meetings with athletic officials to provide key details on many issues, including selection criteria, dates, travel plans and fundraising.

The Isle of Man was well represented in athletics at previous games in Guernsey in 2023 with 33 individuals – 18 men and 15 women – making up the athletics team.

No less than 20 of them made their debut in the games last year.

Additionally, the Isle of Man has enjoyed multiple successes in Guernsey athletics across a wide range of disciplines.

Among these achievements in athletics, Rachael Franklin won gold and new games records in the women’s 5,000m and 1,500m races; Aimee Christian won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles and Tazmin Fayle took bronze in the women’s discus.

Gold and silver in the men’s high jump were won by Regan Corrin and James Margrave respectively and Joe Harris took gold in the men’s javelin.

The men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams won bronze in their respective competitions.

Also included in the honors, the Isle of Man won four medals in the half marathon events.

In the men’s race, Corrin Leeming won individual gold while he and Alan Corlett won team gold; Franklin won individual gold in the women’s race while she and Rebekah Pate took team silver.
