Chief Correspondent Stuart Ramsay discussed the current situation in Ukraine as the war enters its 1,000th day.

“I think we’re entering a very critical phase here because this is obviously the end of the Biden presidency and then Trump will come in,” he says.

“And what will happen to the country after that? Will he try to negotiate an end to the war? He said he would do it in one day, but gave no details on how of which this would happen.

“And I think that has contributed to a very large number of people here being very concerned about the future.

“Of course, the news that the Ukrainian army could use long-range weapons gave a certain boost to the population.

“But I was here a thousand days ago and I have to say that I and many others did not think that the Ukrainian defense would be as effective as it was and has been.

“What is much more important, however, is that President Putin did not think there would be a thousand days of war. He thought he would overthrow this government and establish a new power that would support Moscow.

“Well, none of that happened.

“President Zelensky will address the European Parliament today. He will then address the nation and propose a new type of plan, a vision for the future.

“It’s very much a question of investment. But he also talks about what’s happening on the front line, and it’s not very positive, especially in the east of the country.

“Russia is on the rise there.”
