Comparison between New Skoda Kylaq and Maruti Brezza – Specifications, Features

Skoda has finally revealed its latest compact SUV, Skoda’s first in the world, the Kylaq, and the launch is scheduled for January 2025.

The new Skoda Kylaq was revealed when I compared it to the mega-popular Maruti Brezza in terms of specifications, features, design and more. Note that the compact SUV segment is the busiest in our market. It features products from almost every major mainstream automaker. This makes things exciting for potential buyers. However, OEMs must do their best as the margin for error is very small. Being the latest entrant into this booming category, Skoda is firing on all cylinders. She understands the customer’s mindset and wants to capitalize on this knowledge. On the other hand, the Maruti Brezza is one of the leaders in the segment. Let’s carefully compare the two.

New Skoda Kylaq vs Maruti Brezza – Design

These two SUVs are very distinct although they belong to the same segment. The new Kylaq can be considered a mini Kushaq. It takes inspiration from the Kushaq, which is why we see modern elements like slim LED daytime running lights at the end of the contoured hood, massive grille with 3D rib effect, LED main headlights on the bumper shocks below with integrated LED fog light with cornering. function. Apart from that, the lower half contains an optical aluminum skid plate to give it that imposing road presence. The side profile is constructed with stylish 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, crease-free side body panels, sturdy door skins and black roof rails. Finally, the rear end highlights a 3D diffusion insert on the lower rear bumper, a shark fin antenna, an LED taillight cluster with a thin glossy bezel connecting the two with lettering Skoda and more.

On the contrary, the Maruti Brezza features the latest design language from the Indo-Japanese automobile giant. Up front, we witness a butch stance with that solid grille section finished in chrome and flanked by distinct LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The Suzuki logo is surrounded by chrome elements. Down below, the massive bumper contains black materials and a sturdy skid plate section. Note that the fog lights are placed on the extreme edges of the bumper. Moving down the sides, you’ll notice the black side pillars, chunky wheel arches, sturdy side skirtings and stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, it features a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, sharp LED taillights, a sporty bumper and a sturdy skid plate . The SUV’s attitude is attractive.

New Skoda Kylaq vs Maruti Brezza – Specifications

In terms of specifications, these two SUVs are very close. Unlike some other SUVs in this space, the Skoda Kylaq will be available with just one engine. This is the powerful 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol mill that produces a familiar 115hp and 178Nm of power and torque. This is the same engine that powers the Kushaq and Slavia in trims lower. This engine is complemented by the ability to choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or a torque converter automatic transmission. The Czech automaker claims that the compact SUV can propel from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.5 seconds. It will have a top speed of 188 km/h. I’m sure people would want it as a driving car.

On the other hand, the Maruti Brezza is available with a single 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine with a CNG option. This produces a decent peak power and torque of 103 PS and 138 Nm. Performing transmission duties is either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. In addition to this, this engine produces 89 PS and 121.5 Nm of maximum power and torque on CNG fuel. This variant is available with a single 5-speed manual gearbox. We can expect a mileage of 17.38 km/l with the manual, 19.8 km/l with the automatic and 25.51 km/kg with the CNG. Thus, the needs of all types of buyers can be met. Neither offers a diesel engine.

Dimensions comparison

In terms of dimensions, when it comes to compact SUVs, they measure just under 4m in length. This is essential to benefit from the tax advantages associated with this size. It’s worth noting that while the differences in overall dimensions are minute, arguably the most critical of the lot is the wheelbase. The Kylaq has an advantage in this regard.

Price comparison

Note that the price of the base model of the new Skoda Kylaq was only announced at this time. It starts at an attractive price of Rs 7.89 lakh, ex-showroom. We will know the price details of the entire range of finishes in January 2025 at launch. On the other hand, the Maruti Brezza starts at Rs 8.34 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.14 lakh, ex-showroom. Therefore, the Kylaq certainly looks more convincing, at least in the lower version.

My point of view

These two compact SUVs are tempting propositions. People can opt for the one that suits them best. However, to make an informed decision, you will have to wait until the price details of the entire Skoda Kylaq range are announced. In any case, the other amenities are comparable. For example, both models are available with gasoline engines (although Brezza even offers a CNG option), the features list is long, and the exterior designs are attractive in their own right. It is therefore the prices which will determine the final decision.
