Popular Cities Skylines 2 traffic mod may contain malicious file, Paradox warns

Paradox says that they have already deleted the file in question, but if Cities Skylines 2 had their mods set to “synced” and therefore automatically received the potentially malicious file, it is possible that it would be present on their systems.

“There is a potential security issue that has affected the Traffic mod for Cities Skylines 2,” Paradox explains. “Late Monday evening, an outside actor pushed an update to the mod, which includes a .dll file that we believe to be malicious. We’ve already removed it and the current build as of Thursday, October 31 at 3:35 p.m. CET is safe to download and use, but if your mod synced and you played the game using the mod between Monday and afterwards, it is possible that you may have the malicious file. We are working to determine the nature of this .dll and will update you as soon as possible.

Paradox says that if you haven’t played CS2 using the Traffic mod and haven’t subscribed or downloaded it, there should be no risk to your PC. The publisher also says that if you own the Traffic mod, but haven’t played Cities Skylines 2 since Monday, October 28, or didn’t automatically update the mod between then and now Today, if you allow the mod to update now, it should download the mod. secure version, with the potentially malicious file removed. If you locate this folder, use an antivirus or antimalware program to quarantine and/or remove it from your system, then run a deep scan of your drives. Paradox said that it scans all files uploaded to Paradox Mods to check if others have received unexpected updates. The publisher also contacted the creator of the Traffic mod, who updated it to the safe version. As an added precaution, Paradox Mods will now send updates to modders whenever one of their mods is updated, so they are immediately notified of any unexpected updates.
