Act fast to win $1,050 to travel with the Chase Sapphire Preferred

Issuers like to change their welcome offers regularly, sometimes in an effort to attract more customers, while other times they feel like they’re just seeing what works.

Chase’s limited-time offer for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is unusual enough that it’s a bit like the latter (although I can’t say for sure). In any case, it’s a very interesting offer, and it could be very useful for the right traveler.

$300 Chase Travel℠ Credit + 60,000 Bonus Points

Sign up for a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card now through November 14, 2024 and you’ll see an exciting two-part welcome bonus:

Get up to $1,050 in Chase Travel℠ value. Earn 60,000 bonus points after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. It’s worth $750 when redeemed through Chase Travel. Plus, get up to $300 in statement credits on Chase Travel purchases in your first year.

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Cardmembers can earn $0.0125 per point in the Chase Travel portal, so points plus statement credit are worth up to $1,050 in Chase Travel℠ value.

What you can do on the Chase Travel portal

For me, booking travel through a credit card travel portal, including Chase, is both easier and more difficult than booking directly. On the plus side, you can do almost everything in one place.

Chase Travel allows you to book:

  • Flights
  • Hotels
  • Rental cars
  • Cruises
  • Visits/Activities

And you can use your Ultimate Rewards points for all of this, at a premium rate of $0.0125.

The downside is that you’ll miss out on your hotel and airline status points and benefits. I also had a harder time booking special room types in some hotels (accessible rooms, in our case).

Other ways to use your Ultimate Rewards points

While it’s nice to get a simple flat rate on your rewards points, the travel portal may not be the best place to use your Ultimate Rewards bonus points if you want to maximize your value. To do this, you will want to transfer your points to a partner hotel or airline.

Here are some ways to increase your return per point:

  • Transfer to Hyatt (1:1): I found it pretty easy to get $0.015 or more through reward redemptions at Hyatt hotels.
  • Transfer to United MileagePlus (1:1): You can get good value on United award flights domestically and internationally, with high value for international business class redemptions.
  • Transfer to Air Canada Aeroplan (1:1): There are many great exchange options offered here, especially from the US East Coast to Europe.

Chase has more than a dozen travel partners you can transfer your points to, so be sure to take a look at all the options in your Ultimate Rewards portal. Also keep an eye out for transfer bonuses, as Chase may occasionally offer you an additional 20%, 30%, or even 40% bonus on transfers to a selected partner.

Offer ends November 14, 2024

If this welcome bonus tempts you, decide quickly: it ends on November 14, 2024. And this limited time offer is valid specifically through the “Apply Now” link above. The typical Chase Sapphire Preferred® card welcome bonus doesn’t include the additional Chase Travel credit, so you may lose out if you wait too long to apply.
