Alfie Lumsley was treated on Robin ward several times as a baby

A Jersey boy raised £800 for a hospital ward where he was repeatedly treated.

Alfie Lumsley, 7, ran the Marathon Mile on the island earlier this month to support Robin Ward, who looks after babies, children and young people.

He was treated at the ward on three occasions as a baby when he needed minor ear operations and said he wanted to give back to the ward.

Staff showed Alfie and his family around the room and explained how the money Alfie raised could be spent to help other children.

Alfie smiles at the camera as he stands in the hospital ward. He is wearing his Marathon Mile running top which has navy blue sleeves with a white middle. Alfie also wears his medal around his neck as well as a school badge. He has blonde hair and in the background is the hall hallway.

Alfie said the Marathon Mile was harder than expected

Alfie admitted he hadn’t trained much before the Marathon Mile, which is mainly run by schoolchildren.

He said it was “really hard” and “I had a stitch halfway through”.

Alfie added: “I wanted to raise money for Robin Ward to improve it so I could buy new toys and games for the children.”

He also wanted to say “thank you” to the staff who looked after him when he was a baby.

Clair smiles at the camera and she wears a dark blue fleece with yellow trim and a white paylsey top underneath. She is standing in the hallway of the room. Clair has shoulder-length blonde hair.

Alfie’s mother Clair said Robin Ward had been a great help to her family.

Alfie’s mother Clair joined her son to visit Robin Ward and meet the staff.

She said she was “really proud” of Alfie and was “quite surprised” that he was so excited to take part as “he’s not a runner”.

“I think he wants to treat the children who are here and especially in the run-up to Christmas so we can give them care packages,” she added.

Courtney smiles at the camera and wears her nurse's uniform. She stands next to a wall in the hospital hallway with artistic drawings on it. Her dark blonde hair is tied in a ponytail.

Pediatrician sister Courtney McDade helped show Alfie and his family around the room.

Robin Ward staff congratulated Alfie on his fundraising and his interest in helping other children.

Pediatrician sister Courtney McDade said her fundraiser had been “absolutely amazing” and would be “amazing for the other kids who come into the room”.
