Want a glimpse of the homes of the future?

This is what Manmohan Mahal was looking to build when he started his company SIDCO housesa design and construction group that builds fire-resistant residences using renewable energy, ABC7 reported.

The one Mahal just finished is a doozy. He calls it “the Tesla houses,” and from top to bottom you can see why. It focuses on sustainability and eco-friendly choices that will also save homeowners money.

Located in Palo Alto, it’s not cheaply priced — it’s listed for $3.7 million — but it’s packed with unique features and integrations you don’t find in typical Bay Area homes.

For starters, SIDCO’s patented magnesium oxide panels wrap the structure and make it fire resistant, a major investment considering the increase in dangerous wildfires.

Other features focus on conservation and clean energy, such as the interior supports being made of steel and not wood. Meanwhile, all water from showers and the washing machine is routed to a tank, filtered outside and reused to irrigate garden plants via sprinklers, according to ABC7.

According to the outlet, there is not a single gas pipe or gas-powered appliance on site. Instead, the home’s energy comes from the roof Tesla solar tiles. The electricity produced is then stored in Tesla Powerwallswho can execute the induction stove, heating and air conditioning, and a electric vehicle charger.

Any additional energy the house needs can always be drawn from city electricity. However, it can operate independently of the grid for up to a week thanks to its battery backup system.

These features – solar electricity, battery storage, water reuse and electric vehicle capacity – have been areas of focus from initial plans to the final product.

This means that energy savings are also reflected in the home. No one living there will have to worry about a crazy gas or water bill. The electricity they don’t use isn’t wasted; it’s just saved for later. In addition, by using fewer polluting energy sources, the house minimizes its overall impact on the environment.

“People always value bigger houses, so the consumption that happens there has a lot of value and this house is really about conservation,” Simran Mahal, Manmohan’s daughter, told ABC7.

It’s clear that these well-planned green designs aren’t just interesting thought experiments.

Can you imagine an entire city block lined with houses like this?

“THE technology exists,” Mahal told ABC7. “We can build these houses today.”
