Sweden has published a pamphlet urging its citizens to stockpile food and water in the event of a nuclear attack, as fears of a Third World War grow.

Five million pamphlets will be sent to citizens, containing instructions on how to store and find shelter in the event of war.

It comes as Russia warned there would be a “nuclear response” if Ukraine used long-range US missiles.

There are growing concerns that the move could lead to conflict between Russia and NATO as a whole.

The Swedes have now been asked to prepare mentally and logistically for this eventuality.

The brochure, titled “In Case of Crisis or War” – is distributed by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).

It also contains information on how to prepare for other emergencies such as natural disasters, cyberattacks and terrorism.

The introduction says: “An uncertain world requires preparation. The military threat to Sweden has increased and we must prepare for the worst: an armed attack.”

A statement on the MSB website read: “The state of the world has deteriorated significantly in recent years. War rages in our neighborhood.

“Extreme weather events are becoming more and more common. Terrorist threats, cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns are used to weaken and influence us.

“To resist these threats, we must stand united and take responsibility for our country.

“If we are attacked, everyone must help defend Sweden’s independence and our democracy. We are building our resilience every day – together.”

An excerpt from the guide informs people of the risk of nuclear weapons.

“The global security situation increases the risks of the use of nuclear weapons,” he says.

“In the event of an attack with nuclear, biological or chemical weapons, take shelter in the same way as during an air attack.

“A shelter provides the best protection. After a few days, the radiation decreased significantly.”

This comes as Vladimir Putin signed a new doctrine on Tuesday lowering the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons.

According to the doctrine, any aggression against Russia by a member state of a coalition would be considered by Moscow as aggression against it by the entire coalition.

The move follows US President Joe Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles in Russia.

A Russian government spokesperson said: “kyiv’s use of long-range missiles to attack our territory would represent direct involvement of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia, as well as a radical change in the essence and nature of the conflict. conflict.

“Russia’s response in such a case will be appropriate and tangible.”
