Watch David Gilmour Present “Dark and Velvet Nights” on “Fallon”

The musician was joined for the performance by house band The Roots.

David Gilmour arrested by Tonight’s show to perform her recent song, “Dark and Velvet Nights.” The musician was joined by a house band the rootsas well as four backing singers, for the dynamic performance.

“Dark and Velvet Nights” is from the Pink Floyd member’s new album, Lucky and strangewhich fell in September. The album marks Gilmour’s first new solo album in almost a decade, following 2015’s. Rattle that lock. The title track features keyboards from Richard Wright of Pink Floyd, which was recorded at Gilmour in 2007.

Gilmour sat down with the host Jimmy Fallon to discuss the album, as well as the rumor that The hidden side of the Moon was written to sync with the film The Wizard of Oz. Fallon asked Gilmour if he had been affected by the numerous five-star reviews the album is receiving, to which the musician admitted that “of course” he cares about the response to his work.

“You can’t help but look at it,” he says. “And angry at those who gave you three (stars) and said something stupid.” He added of the LP: “For me it’s very special.”

Fallon then asked Gilmour about several rumors, including that the musician was once a model. Gilmour confirmed that the modeling career was true, noting that “it was a way to build up my resources to buy a new guitar or something that I actually needed.”

As for the The Wizard of Oz link with Pink Floyd’s flagship album, Gilmour dismissed the rumor. “I didn’t hear about it until years later,” he told Fallon. He said he tried to sync the vinyl with the film, although it is now available online. “There are these strange coincidences,” Gilmour said. “I’m going to call it coincidences.”

Gilmour is currently on tour supporting Luck and Strange. It is expected to occur two additional nights at Madison Square Garden in New York this weekend.
