Where Alabama’s Richest Residents Live and Why: Your County’s Rankings

Shelby County remains Alabama’s wealthiest region for another year and has been one of the state’s wealthiest counties since 1971, according to a report. Culverhouse College of Business Report.

SmartAsset, a financial technology company, released its annual study on The richest counties in the United States. The rankings can give residents insight into where resources and investments can be focused within the state, including quality housing, business opportunities and infrastructure development. “Municipalities in Shelby County use a lot of their resources to ensure that people who live in Shelby County have a positive quality of life, and that’s things like parks, and things like schools, large companies, citizens can seek employment in…The last thing would be just the spirit of collaboration and it comes down to everyone wanting to work together,” said Kirk Mancer, president and CEO of the County Chamber by Shelby.

In Alabama, Shelby and Madison counties ranked the same as previous years, while Jefferson County moved up the ranks..

Nationwide, Teton County, Wyoming ranks first among the wealthiest counties in America with a median income of $108,279 and a median home value of $2,242,021.

In the southeast region, Williamson County ranks first in Tennessee and No. 17 in the nation with a median income of $125,943 and a median home value of $877,198.

Monroe County ranks first in Florida and No. 21 in the nation with a median income of $80,111 and a median home value of $1,022,934.

Forsyth County ranks first in Georgia and No. 40 in the nation with a median income of $131,660 and a median home value of $624,273.

SmartAsset says it ranks counties by comparing investment income, property value and median income across all U.S. counties to see which areas accumulate the most wealth. The investment index for each county was calculated by uniformly weighing ordinary dividends, qualified dividends, and net capital gains.
