5 high school football stars from the second round of the playoffs

The State Journal will recognize the achievements of five high school football athletes from our coverage area each week.

The efforts may not be the biggest statistically, but they are remarkable. We then invite readers to vote for Supernova, the performance that struck you the most.

Here are the winners of this week’s second round. This will conclude this season’s installment.

In Waunakee wins 17-0 against Middletonlinebacker Noah Joseph had a monster performance with 15 tackles, including four for losses.

“Noah’s drive to be great, coupled with his excellent preparation, puts him in a great position to succeed on the field and as a leader of our team,” Waunakee coach Chris Graverson said.

Joseph had four tackles for loss in his team’s two playoff games. In the first round game against Wausau West, he had 18 tackles, according to WisSports. The top-seeded Warriors will host No. 7 DC Everest on Friday.

Quarterback Brooks Hendrickson led Mount Horeb/Barneveld to a 35-14 victory over Waterford with two passing touchdowns and 195 yards.

The junior completed 15 of 25 passes and had no interceptions, according to WisSports. He threw his first touchdown for 68 yards to Owen Aeschlimann.

Hendrickson now has two or more touchdowns in his last five games. Mount Horeb/Barneveld plays top-seeded Waukesha Catholic Memorial on Friday.

Monona Grove running back Tremayne Habeck did everything in his power to keep the game close in a 35-34 loss at Rice Lake.

The junior totaled 233 yards and a season-high four touchdowns, according to WisSports. His final touchdown in the fourth quarter gave his team a six-point lead, but a failed 2-point conversion allowed the No. 2 seed to come back and win.

With 13 total tackles, three for losses and two sacks, Belleville’s Ryker Swenson was nearly unstoppable in his team’s 21-7 win over Marshall, according to WisSports.

The middle linebacker made three solo tackles and assisted on 10, helping his defense hold Marshall to one score and advance to the quarterfinals. Belleville will play at No. 2 Lancaster on Friday.

In his final high school football game, Sun Prairie East wide receiver Cooper White turned in an unforgettable performance. He was responsible for both of the Cardinals’ touchdowns in their 38-14 loss to West De Pere.

White caught an 80-yard pass from quarterback Max Raimer in the first quarter, then a 12-yard pass in the second. He finished the game with 194 receiving yards on eight receptions.
