Ajith Kumar’s wife Shalini recently took to her social media account to share an adorable selfie with R Madhavan. The duo worked together in the 2000 romantic film Alai Payuthey, directed by filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

Sharing two selfies with R Madhavan on his Instagram account, Chalini wrote “Endrendrum Punnagai,” which loosely translates to “Smile Forever.” Soon after posting this post, fans took to the comments section to share their fond memories.

One social media user wrote, “Alaipayuthe the vibes are coming back…looking at you both like this,” while another user commented, “The iconic on-screen couple reunites again after 24 years , seeing them together takes us back to those memorable days.”

“Favorite on-screen couple,” another comment read. On the other hand, a user wrote, “OmG. The Reunion we didn’t know we needed, Wow Karthik and Shakti after 24 years.”

A social media user also requested a follow-up to the R Madhavan starrer and commented: “You could literally make Alaipayuthey 2: Parents Edition???”

Alai Payuthey, directed by Mani Ratnam, was a huge hit in theaters in 2000. The film revolves around the lives of Karthik, an engineering graduate, and Shakti, a medical student. The couple fall in love after meeting at a wedding and marry against the wishes of their respective families.

As they embark on their journey as a newly married couple, they realize that not everything is easy. However, despite the conflicts, they stay together and reaffirm their love.

The film’s soundtrack has been composed by none other than AR Rahman. Songs like Alai Payuthey’s Snehidhane and Evano Oruvan were instant hits as the audience could relate to them.
