Groundbreaking for football stadium on USF campus set for Friday

After many years of discussions and extensive planning, teams will finally begin construction of the USF Friday, a new football stadium on campus.

University officials said the stadium would be “transformative” for the school. football programfrom the gaming experience to campus life in general.

The $340 million stadium will accommodate approximately 35,000 people, including luxury field-level suites and state-of-the-art facilities for players and fans.

Renderings released earlier this week show interior and exterior views, including the North Lawn, which will be used for tailgating and live music.

The west side student section features a DJ deck and the “Bull U” logo, which will be lit up at night.

The south side will be shaded, with premium seating, club and private suites and a rooftop patio.

“It will be different,” said Will Weatherford, president of the USF board of trustees. “It will be better. And our students deserve it. Our fans deserve it.”

“It’s a little surreal that this is actually happening,” USF head coach Alex Golesh said. “We’ve been talking about this for so long. There’s so much planning that’s been done, but to have something to experience here on campus, I think it’s going to be a really surreal and incredible experience for a lot of people who have done a lot at the over the last 27 years to establish this program, and certainly our university.

The stadium is expected to open in time for the 2027 season.
