NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday suspended all candidates contesting against official Maha Vikas Aghadi candidates for six years on the grounds that there would be no “friendly fights” within the alliance.
“There will be no friendly fights. All rebels contesting against official MVA candidates have been suspended,” the All India Congress Committee in charge of Maharashtra said.
This comes after the alliance’s efforts to persuade rebel MPs to engage in “friendly fights” to avoid splitting votes proved unsuccessful.
Sena MP (UBT) Sanjay Raut has already made it clear that there will be no friendly fights at the MVA.
“Out of 7-8 seats, there are several nominations from MVA. We have time until Monday afternoon… We will find a way to negotiate,” he said.
Meanwhile, state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule also said that in Vidarbha, they expect 99% of rebel candidates to withdraw from the race.
