‘Peril!’ Fans angry as episode rejected for election TV coverage

(Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for the Tuesday, November 5 episode of Danger!)

Danger! fans were shortchanged on Tuesday, November 5, as coverage of the 2024 presidential election moved ahead of the quiz show in many major markets during its normal timeslot. While the defending champion really hit his stride, his opponents missed their moment in front of a national audience (and many fans missed the episode entirely).

Greg Jolina systems specialist and accountant from Raymond, New Hampshire, competed in a three-day championship with a total winnings of $75,002. Having reached 3/3 on Final Jeopardy, he has become a “model of consistency”, as stated by Ken Jennings took pleasure in saying. He competed against Chuck Rea, a software engineering executive from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Priscilla Gruenewald, a retired writer and editor from Nipomo, California.

In danger! In the round, Jolin jumped with $9,800 (and a daily double of $3,000), while Gruenewald finished with $800 and Rea with $2,800. In Double Jeopardy, Jolin made the game’s memorable move. With $16,000 at the time, he bet $10,000 even on the second Daily Double. “Oh wow, that’s a big bet!” Jennings remarked. The “ANIMALS ON THE MAP” clue read: “This Erie County town is home to the Nickel City Opera. He performed it as “Buffalo” and it was game over from there.

By Final Jeopardy, Jolin walked away with a dazzling $30,200, while Rea had $7,400 (getting the final daily double) and Gruenewald $6,000; respectable scores but far from being close to the champion.

The “PHRASE ORIGINS” clue read: “In 1935, an article popularized the term to refer to the part of the United States where residents “depended on rain.” Everyone was right with “The Dust Bowl.” Jolin, maintaining his immaculate Final Jeopardy record, became champion over four days with a staggering total of $35,400 and $110,402.

Fans flooded social media, cheering for Jolin, who seems to be transforming into a real powerhouse, but feeling frustrated that the quiz didn’t find a workaround for election night and for the two players who were one and finished.

In the episode’s Reddit thread, a fan wrote, “My condolences go out to Priscilla Gruenwald and Chuck Rea, who probably won’t get to have viewing parties to celebrate their time on Jeopardy.”

“I’m curious what percentage won’t see the episode do anything else in the United States. I’m one of them…” wrote another.

A fourth noted: “Just over half (108 out of 209) stations, representing just over half (53.6%) of all households. »

For those looking to get their Danger! resolve, there are a few options. People without cable can watch the game with a YouTube TV Or Hulu+ Live TV subscription. People with cable can check local listings to see when and where the game is showing. here.

Other fans in the thread focused on the game and shared positives: “Greg was very impressive. Probably my favorite contestant this season because he has the guts to go for DD,” a fifth wrote.

“It’s a shame so many people are deprived of the phrase ‘we won’t have time to finish off Mary Queen of Scots like the executioner did’,” a sixth joked about from a Jennings joke about a discovered clue.

“Ballsy 10K DD bet,” wrote a seventh. “It’s just a good strategy. This is a second line clue. Greg would still have the lead if he missed the time to rebuild. If he succeeds, it’s almost over. It just makes sense.

Jolin chimed in in the thread to explain why he felt so confident betting: “Also, it’s a very well pinned second line clue. “Animals on the map” considerably restricts the possible response space. »

Danger! has made sure fans aren’t missed due to election night in the past. During the 2022 Tournament of Champions (airing midway), the producers put together this instant classic “exhibition game” featuring Mattea Roach, Matt Amodio, And Amy Schneider (and a cursing Jennings). This time, no dice!
