An updated report was issued at 2:38 a.m. Monday by the National Weather Service for an elevated fire danger through 7 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties.

“The increased risk of fire spread will persist today. Low relative humidity between 25 and 35 percent and dry fuels will favor the spread of any fire that ignites. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Be sure to extinguish or properly dispose of any potential ignition sources, including smoking materials such as cigarette butts. Refer to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service website for information on burning restrictions,” according to the weather service.
