The Detroit Lions prove why they are the best team in the NFL

In 2024, the Detroit Lions – time and time again – have proven they can hang in there and beat anyone.

Whether indoors or outdoors, they have always found a way to withstand the elements and overcome any adversity they have faced.

And after nine weeks (and Sunday’s win over Green Bay), it’s hard to say there’s an NFL team better than Dan Campbell The Lions of the NFC North are currently in the lead.

They found a way to win at home and on the road throughout the season, regardless of the hostile environment. There is probably no better example than that of that of Detroit NFC North clash with the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

Everyone and their mother understood that it would be difficult for Campbell & Co. to go to Green Bay – playing away for the first time this season – and emerge victorious. To make matters worse, conditions were going to be far from optimal, with the forecast calling for constant rain. And boy, did Mother Nature unleash one hell of a rain shower.

For four quarters, the rain continued to let up, leading to a wet and slippery surface at Lambeau Field and making visibility difficult for members of the Lions and Packers. Just ask Detroit’s defensive coordinator Aaron Glennwhose rain-soaked glasses became a popular topic of conversation and viral image on “X” Sunday.

These less than ideal conditions were supposed to favor the Packers, who took up residence at Lambeau Field – aka “The Frozen Tundra.” However, it was quite the opposite on Sunday, with Detroit looking like the home team and Green Bay like the team that played the majority of its games indoors.

THE Lionsby far, played the cleanest game. They failed to turn the ball over once and the signal-caller Jared Goff delivered another ultra-efficient performance. He completed his first 11 passes and finished 18 of 22 for 145 yards and a touchdown. And, for his efforts, he earned a QBR of 88.9.

Meanwhile, Green Bay turned the ball over once and Jordan Love failed to find much success by air. The second-year starting QB delivered a sloppy performance. He threw an interception late in the second quarter that resulted in a Kerby Joseph landing. Additionally, he fumbled three times and was fortunate that all three fumbles were recovered and did not result in turnovers.

Overall, Love had a disappointing day, completing less than 60 percent of his passes – 23 of 39 passes – for 273 yards and no touchdowns.

After the 24-14 victory of Detroitone team clearly looked like a “dome” team – and it wasn’t Campbell’s Lions team.

“Every time you go to these games – once a year you get one like this. In Green Bay, in Lambeau, » Goff told Fox Sports Erin Andrews after the match. “We’re supposed to be the Dome team. We came here and were supposed to be the team that can’t play away. And we come here and win.

that of Detroit Sunday’s offensive attack was also aided by a strong outing from its backfield duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The tandem amassed 138 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, an average of 4.9 yards per carry. Montgomery led the way on the ground with 73 yards, while Gibbs scored the duo’s only touchdown on a 15-yard run in the third quarter.

For the game, Gibbs accumulated 65 yards on 11 carries, an average of 5.9 yards per carry. With this effort, the second-year running back has now averaged an NFL record of five or more yards per rushing attempt in seven straight games (on a minimum of 10 rushing attempts per game).

Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson The unit withstood the conditions and put up an impressive overall effort. And the key to all of this was that Goff & Co. played turnover-less football.

“It was huge” Campbell said postgame that Detroit didn’t commit a single turnover. “We knew that coming here. We talked about a number of things: gaming supremacy, we talked about explosives, as crazy as that sounds in this type of weather. But whoever could offer the most explosives, field position and turnover rate. The fact that we took care of football. We’ve been preaching it all week. We worked on it. Wet ball drills every day during outdoor training. Our guys really did a great job. Goff took great care of the football and that was the difference. It was a big difference.

Goff has now completed at least 80 percent of his passes in three consecutive games (min. 15 attempts) – the first player to do so in a single season. Additionally, he produced the highest completion percentage (82.8%) and highest passer rating (140.1) of any quarterback in six straight games. NFL History.

Undeniably, Goff is playing some of the best football he’s ever had as an NFL quarterback.

“As you get older, you just start to learn when to take risks and when not to,” the veteran passer told reporters after the game. “I know I’ve said it before, but I just feel like I play pretty disciplined. Trying to take care of the ball and get it into the hands of our playmakers. There’s a couple I’d like to get back to today where I think I could have had Kalif (Raymond) open and I I didn’t come back to him as number two in progression. I might have had (Amon-Ra) St. Brown open on third down, and I didn’t get it to him. That will always push me to improve, but I’m taking care of the ball pretty well at the moment. And I will try to continue to do so.

Rain or shine, indoors or out, these Detroit Lions are built to win. Period.

They don’t care who they play or where they play them. They only have one thing in mind: winning.

“There are things, there are duct tape, there are things that we need to clean up quickly across the board, and we will. But I know this: I’m not at all shocked that we came here and played really good football despite the elements. Campbell expressed. “We’re built for this, man, and it doesn’t matter just because we play inside. It doesn’t matter. We can play anywhere. We can play in the snow. We can play in the rain. Play in the mud. It’s just us, and we’re built to win, man.

Detroit isn’t just designed to win games in the first nine weeks of the season. He’s also built to win on the NFL’s biggest stage.

Equipped with the relentless mentality of their head coach, a powerful offense and a competent defense, the Lions are good enough to make history and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. And if they continue at the pace they are currently at, that is exactly what they will do.

Unequivocally, this is the best team the NFC has to offer. And currently, I’m not afraid to say that I would also label Detroit as the best team in the NFL.
