Police faced ‘assault’ while breaking up event

Police said four officers were assaulted and a vehicle damaged during an “unlicensed music event” in Bristol on Saturday evening.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were confronted with “totally unacceptable” behavior, with some being spat at, objects thrown at them and one being grabbed by the hair.

Musical equipment was seized and two people arrested at the event, which took place on Willway Street in Bedminster.

A 28-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A law enforcement spokesperson said the first reports of the event came in at 10:19 p.m. GMT on Saturday and officers who attended the scene found a crowd of around 200 to 250 people had gathered.

Neighborhood inspector Keith Smith said: “We recognize the significant impact these events can have on people living in the surrounding area and we have responded quickly – and with significant resources – to minimize this.

“Some of the behavior the officers encountered was completely unacceptable. Officers were punched, spat on, had objects thrown at them and one officer was grabbed by the hair, causing violence. bruises. Social assistance is in place for them.

“Despite the aggression they faced, officers responded with the utmost professionalism and were able to limit the impact on local residents.”

The arrested woman has since been released on police bail and the boy has been released under investigation, police said.
