Election Day is fast approaching, and in addition to an “I Voted” sticker, some companies are offering perks ranging from a discounted ride to the polls to a free treat.

Although it is illegal to reward people for voting or pay people to register to vote (as evidenced by the backlash against Elon Musk’s controversial $1 million contest for to registered voters in swing states), these benefits are promotions and discounts.

Election Day, which falls on Tuesday, November 5, is not a federal holiday. However, some states celebrate it as a public holiday, so your local government offices may be closed. More than 2,000 companies are participating in the “Time to Vote” initiative, which is committed to ensuring that their employees can vote according to their working hours.

While fewer than half of U.S. states require employers to give workers paid time off to vote, some companies offer gifts to those who take the time to vote.

Be sure to check local restaurants, bars and businesses for promotions they might be offering on Election Day. Here are some offers available across the country:

Carpooling

On Election Day, users will be greeted with different promotions by clicking the “Go Vote!” button. » tile in the Uber app. The company is offering passengers a 50% discount on travel to their polling location (up to $10). The app will also help users find the nearest polling location.

Uber Eats is offering 25% off orders up to $15, with a minimum of $25. The offer is available from 6 p.m. local time on November 5 until 7 a.m. local time on November 6.

Lyft also said it is offering 50% off (up to $10) on rides to the polls on Election Day. Users can preload the VOTE24 commute code no later than November 5.

Lyft said it has helped 3 million people get to the polls in the years since the program launched.

“Lyft believes that access to transportation should never be a barrier for any citizen seeking to vote,” Jerry Golden, Lyft’s chief political officer, said in a statement.

Car rentals

Car rental company Hertz is offering a free day to customers who rent two or more days from October 21 to November 5, as part of its Drive the Vote deal.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme — which frequently runs promotions celebrating various holidays — is offering donuts in honor of “DOUGHmocracy.” Participating US stores will give away a free Original Glazed Donut, no purchase or proof of vote necessary. The chain will also distribute “I Voted” stickers to those who voted early or mailed in an absentee ballot.

Johnny Rockets

The 1950s-style diner chain is offering customers a free shake with an in-store purchase on Election Day at participating locations. Guests must prove they have voted, for example by affixing an “I Voted” sticker.

Pizza Round Table

With more than 400 locations, primarily on the West Coast, Round Table Pizza is offering $6 off a large or extra-large pizza for dine-in, takeout or delivery from participating locations.

Ikea

Participating stores of the Swedish furniture retailer will offer free frozen yogurt on Election Day. The coupon is available here.
