Google Search Console Performance Report Bug Causes Panic

Google Search Console performance reports report current data by default, which means you likely won’t see any impressions or clicks on your websites. This is a confirmed issue on Google’s side and there’s no reason to panic: Google is working to resolve the issue.

Waking up in panic mode. SEOs and site owners woke up this morning to Search Console performance reports showing almost no traffic to their websites. This caused extreme panic and worry among many. I talked about it a lot on the Roundtable on search engines a few hours ago.

Don’t panic, it’s a Google problem. John Mueller, a Google search analyst, confirmed this to me this morning, saying, “It’s an issue on our side – the team is looking into it. Thanks everyone for noticing and letting us know, this was not meant to replace your traditional morning wake-up drink.

What it looks like. I’ve published a number of examples, here are a few, but you can check out your own reports to see more:

Why we care. Take a breath and let Google work on fixing the problem. It seems to me that Google is showing the most recent data today by default and since the day has just started, you may not see many clicks and impressions yet. Google will resolve the issue by fixing the default reports or updating the documentation.
