New research has claimed that workers using AI PCs might actually end up being less productive than their counterparts using more conventional PCs – at least to start.

An Intel study of 6,000 participants from a handful of European countries highlighted a number of integration challenges. AI tools in everyday workflows, despite their promise of improving efficiency.

The numbers suggest that workers using AI PCs spend more time on routine tasks than their peers, likely due to the learning curve required to get to grips with the new technology.

AI PCs don’t help increase productivity…yet

Mundane tasks like writing emails, organizing files, and transcribing meetings seem to take a lot of time and effort as users adapt to these systems, but the real benefit of artificial intelligence to Beyond this initial learning curve has not yet been revealed.

However, the potential reach is significant: employees currently waste 51 minutes searching for files, 67 minutes summarizing documents, 72 minutes composing emails, 56 minutes organizing inboxes, 59 minutes taking notes on meetings and 53 minutes scheduling calls each week. AI tools have been sold with the promise of reducing the burden of these administrative tasks.

“Our role as a technology leader is to support this transition to AI-assisted living and provide consumers with the knowledge they need to use an AI PC effectively and ethically,” said Robert Hallock, vice president. -President and General Manager of Customer AI and Technical Marketing at Intel.

Intel is currently seeing its revenues fall as it loses to other competitors in the chip manufacturing sector, such as Nvidia and AMD, which have had more success in the market.

However, the figures of Canalys figures claim that AI PCs now represent one in five PCs shipped.

“Despite this positive momentum, significant work remains to be done to convince channel partners and end customers of the benefits of AI-enabled PCs,” commented principal analyst Ishan Dutt.
