Democrats need to start acting like Republicans

Many think pieces have been written over the past week telling Democrats what they need to do now to win back voters and stop Republican momentum heading into the 2024 elections.

I wrote one, imploring Democrats to work on messaging and consistency, and I’ve probably read a hundred or more. Most of them gave very good advice and put forward some very good ideas about ways to re-attract the casual voter who is not glued to political television seven hours a day. And perhaps in the long run, these ideas, if put into practice, will help Democrats regain power, keep it, and improve the lives of everyone who works hard.

But in the short term, Democrats should forget most of these recommendations. And they only have one thing to do.

Act like Republicans.

I’m being extremely serious here. It’s time for Democrats to do away with the wacky, oh shit, forgive me, sane, rational, let me explain this in more detail approach, and start beating people over the head .

In your face. Here’s what we do. Here’s why it’s awesome. You will love it.

Don’t try to argue this. Because it is currently the most effective strategy on the planet.

If you doubt that, let me remind you of one thing: this country just elected Donald John Trump just four years after his attempted coup.

Because reality no longer matters. The reality you sell to people is all that matters.

To point out that right now, Trump is nominating a walking piece of human garbage named Matt Gaetz – the Florida congressman who tried to derail an ethics investigation into his sexual relationship with a young of 17 years old and who was credible. accused of being involved in a sex trafficking ring – just hours after appointing a completely unqualified Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence, effectively placing the country’s entire intelligence service in the hands of one person not qualified to hold a position as a security guard in a local establishment. bank.

Because Trump knows better than anyone that – and I cannot say this emphatically enough – reality no longer matters.

All that matters is what you sell to people.

And man, people buy just about everything.

Consider, if you will, that Trump and the Republicans just sold the majority of Americans on the idea that President Biden and the Democrats were responsible for the price hike. This madness conveniently forgets that it was Trump who torched the economy and that Trump, like Biden, also sent checks to people who helped exacerbate inflation.

And not one of you, I noticed, returned the checks.

But none of that mattered. All that mattered was the narrative built around the fight that Republicans were selling to voters.

Prices are rising. Here’s someone to blame. As simple as that.

And the Democrats’ real problem is that they simply don’t know how to be bold. How to sell. How to go out in front of a crowd and dance. How to be shameless and opportunistic. How to really flatter.

Instead of making fun of all those Republicans who kept showing up to inauguration ceremonies and groundbreakings for projects made possible by the Biden initiatives, Democrats should have instead been at these events, shoveling dirt and snatching scissors from these GOP influence thieves. They should have peeled the Biden “I Did This” stickers off the gas pumps and stuck them on bridges and roads wherever ARPA funds funded anything.

Biden should have held a weekly press rally touting the domestic improvements made possible by his initiatives and highlighting the jobs created by his programs. He should have shouted to the press every morning on the White House lawn about the unemployment rate. They should have produced videos and reports comparing the price of commodities in America to those in other developed countries.

And this shyness continues.

On Wednesday, there was Biden, sitting respectfully and welcoming the former coup leader to the White House for a smooth transition. I mean, the peaceful transfer of power is a good thing, obviously, but in what world should this have been a comfortable, quiet meeting for Trump?

The man led a coup. His supporters spread human feces on the walls of our Capitol. Stop normalizing this.

Do you think Republicans would act this way? Do you think the Republican AG would have sat on these cases for four damn years?

The fact is that Donald Trump and the Republicans are in charge again because the Democrats failed to act. He failed to do the right, bold things and stood by while Republicans did the bold, wrong things.

This must stop.

Stop with this introspective nonsense. Stop sugarcoating what you say. Stop pretending you’re asking people to do complicated and unsavory things.

The only thing Democrats have called for are initiatives that seek equality and fairness, and laws that essentially tell people to mind their own business. Stop apologizing for that. Stop allowing good things to turn into unsavory acts because you are too afraid to take a stand.

Over the past four years, Democrats have performed about as well as anyone could have hoped for. But because they failed to adapt to an oversaturated electorate, they allowed Republicans to label wins, losses, and good things as bad.

Look, I understand that wallowing is often disgusting and unsavory. I know it’s unnatural for most people to stand up and congratulate themselves.

But if Republicans can do it to promote bad things, you can do it to do good.
