As temperatures drop significantly across the UK, many will struggle to justify installing heating due to the cost. Because it’s almost Christmas, some will try to avoid it and instead try to save money for presents, using hooded blankets, bed socks and hot water bottles.

While these solutions may help temporarily, they don’t seem to be the best permanent solution and as a result, people are taking to social media to share their best money saving tips, calculating how much money you could actually save money by making certain changes. .

TikTok user @vcw_19 said there would be “no more heat rise” thanks to the product she recommended.

So what was she excited about that she thought changed her life? It’s the humble electric blanket.

She claimed she had been “very cold” recently, so she had turned up the heat to warm a room at the back of the house and didn’t get much sunlight during the day in winter.

As a result, she was worried about her heating bill, but said she “didn’t have to touch the heating” thanks to the electric blanket.

She noticed the prices were changing for them and she paid £17 for hers, but “hates being cold” so had to make the purchase.

The woman said, “I think this is probably the purchase of the year for me,” and when someone said they wanted to get one, she encouraged them to take the plunge and buy have fun.

“I need it, my heating is on full blast day and night, it’s so cold,” they complained.

She replied: “I checked that heating costs on average £1.69 per hour. Electric blankets cost around 6p per hour. That’s a huge saving! »

I chose the faux husky fur model because I work from home and wanted a heated option that I could use throughout my house, not just in bed, and it is by far the best item I have purchased for my house.

“It’s thick and warm even without the heater. I haven’t had to go above setting 3 yet. And according to my smart meter it costs 0.01p per hour to run. My gas costs about £1 every 20 minutes when I get up to temperature, and as I live on a damp rented patio it’s always clicking.

“I have no regrets about my purchase and would highly recommend it to someone who wants to heat the person and not the property. I leave upstairs windows open for moisture and mold, have a dehumidifier when that’s not possible, and help with laundry drying time.

Another wrote: “I think it’s definitely worth getting.” Personally, I prefer a heated mattress pad (the kind that looks like a fitted sheet) to an electric blanket with strings or straps – these are a bit cheaper, but it’s worth upgrading to the mattress pad type and not much more money. The ones with strings or straps never stay in place properly.
