Debbie Mucarsel-Powell deletes polling place photos after Rick Scott alleges illegal photography

Democratic candidate for Senate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell deleted video she posted online from an early voting location. The move comes after outgoing Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott alleged that the video violated State Law.

“Debbie Mucarsel-Powell must be held accountable for blatantly violating Florida election law in a desperate attempt to draw attention to the failure of her campaign,” said Jonathan Turcottespokesperson for Scott’s Senate campaign.

“We also expect the Miami Supervisor of Elections to immediately condemn her for not only breaking the law, but also for violating the privacy rights of so many voters.” No one is above the law, including Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

The Mucarsel-Powell camp has denied any wrongdoing.

“The only person in this race who broke the law is Rick Scott, who oversaw the largest Medicare fraud in the history of this country,” said Lauren Chouspokesperson for the Mucarsel-Powell campaign.

Nonetheless, shortly after Scott’s campaign denounced this apparent violation, the campaign removed the video.

Florida’s polling place security law prohibits individuals from taking photos and videos from inside a polling place.

“No photography is permitted in the voting room or early voting area, except that a voter may photograph his or her own ballot,” reads Florida Statute 102.031.

The Scott campaign distributed screenshots of the video, which is no longer available on its social media feed. Mucarsel-Powell, a Miami Democrat, spoke to the camera in the video. On Let’s bring this home to Florida.

Another photo shared on his X account also appeared to have been taken inside a library where early voting was taking place, and stated: “That feeling when you vote to become Florida’s first Latino senator!!”

Scott’s campaign made it clear that removing the posts meant that Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign knew they made a mistake in posting them.

“Hey @DebbieforFL why did you delete your video?” then read an article about the Scott campaign’s X account. “Good thing @X saved it for you here.”
