    Cash app users have less than a week to submit a request for reimbursement of the Data and security breach in 2021.

    Users have until November 18, 2024 to file a claim for the $15 million in damages the mobile payment service was ordered to pay in a recent settlement.

    Plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit against Cash App Investing and Block Inc. filed after a December 2021 data breach said the companies failed to “exercise due diligence to secure and protect consumer information.”

    The breach affected 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers, according to the lawsuit.

    Cash App users could receive up to $2,500.

    When did the Cash App security breach occur?

    The lawsuit says the December 2021 data breach resulted in “the unauthorized public disclosure of the personally identifiable information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

    A former employee also gained access to Cash App users’ personal information during their employment and downloaded the data without the users’ knowledge, according to the lawsuit.

    What types of claims can Cash App users file?

    According to Cash App, a user can submit a claim for the following:

    • Direct losses: Users can submit a claim showing that their Cash App account was involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a refund, after submitting the required documents to the company, they could receive up to $2,500.
    • Lost time: Cash App users who submit a claim may be entitled to reimbursement for lost time. Users can submit a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent regarding unauthorized users and data breach.
    • Transaction losses: If a user has suffered a monetary loss and has not been reimbursed, they will be able to submit a transaction loss claim.

    What happens if I have multiple Cash App accounts?

    Users only need to submit one claim form. However, if you have multiple Cash App accounts that you want to submit a claim for, the mobile payments service recommends that users list each of their Cash App user tags and claim information on a single claim form, said CashApp.

    How to claim Cash App settlement

    To file a claim, Cash App users can submit a completed claim form by November 18, 2024, for review. You can submit the claim form to cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
