SBU detained In Kharkiv, a group of GRU agents consisting of four local residents — two unemployed people, a former military officer and a software engineer.

The group’s activities were allegedly coordinated by a militant “from the DNR special forces” fighting against Ukraine in the east and cooperating with the GRU.

The suspects were spying on the army and were planning a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv: during one of them, they blew up the car of an Armed Forces soldier, seriously injuring him, and in the other, they were supposed to follow a train with military equipment and derail it.

One of the men was arrested in a forest area while trying to hide an explosive device, the others were arrested at their home.

During the searches, explosives were seized, as well as mobile phones and computer equipment testifying to the crimes. The detainees were suspected of high treason and illegal handling of explosives, and may further be classified as acts of sabotage and terrorism: they face life imprisonment with confiscation of their property.
