Private sector companies created 233,000 jobs in October, payroll processing company ADP announced Wednesday.

That figure is well above economists’ estimates of 114,000 jobs and the larger-than-expected increase of 143,000 jobs in September.

“Even amid the hurricane recovery, job growth was strong in October,” said Nela Richardson, ADP chief economist. “As we close out the year, U.S. hiring is proving robust and generally resilient.”

Meanwhile, the number of job postings fell to its lowest level since January 2021. Job postings fell by 418,000 to 7.443 million on the last day of September, the lowest level since more three and a half years, according to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. said Tuesday in its survey of job openings and labor turnover, known as JOLTS report.
