Four reasons why Man Utd chose Amorim revealed as Red Devils ‘didn’t talk to anyone else’

Man Utd insist they have not spoken to any managers apart from Ruben Amorim during the process of finding Erik ten Hag’s successor, according to reports.

The Red Devils announced on Friday that Amorim would become their new head coach on November 11. when he finishes his duties as coach of Sporting Lisbon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, a 5-2 winner against Leicester City in his first match as caretaker manager in the Carabao Cup, will continue to lead Man Utd in their next three matches in all competitions against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City.

Many other managers were linked with a move to Man Utd following the Red Devils’ sacking of Ten Hag on Monday morning, including former Barcelona boss Xavi and Fulham’s Marco Silva.

While reports claimed former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was considering replacing Ten Hag before he was named England manager last month.

However, BBC SportSimon Stone, Chief Football News Reporter says Man Utd are “adamant” that they have not spoken to any other candidates about the vacancy.

Peter said:

“Despite reports to the contrary, Manchester United officials are adamant the club have not spoken to anyone else about his vacancy, having decided that Ruben Amorim fit their structure, led by sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

“This completes the overhaul sparked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s part-purchase of the club on Christmas Eve. It’s pretty obvious, but United have focused on Amorim’s style of play, his personality, youth development players and his energy as key characteristics that make him suitable for this role, although there is no indication that Erik ten Hag lacked these qualities.

“United believe they have recruited what club officials call ‘the most exciting young manager in Europe’. Their optimism about the future is familiar to all their previous managers, after Sir Alex Ferguson. The appointment is the first of the Ineos era Club officials know that after all these discussions, Ratcliffe will take full responsibility for what happens in the future.

Peter added:

“Even though Ruben Amorim himself described Manchester United’s managerial situation as a ‘soap opera’, the Premier League club actually acted quite quickly.

“Once it was decided that Erik ten Hag had to leave after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham, United knew who they wanted and sent general manager Omar Berrada to Lisbon on Monday to speak directly to Sporting.

“The interim period was spent negotiating a 30-day notice period and Sporting settling an unrelated bond issue.

“It quickly became apparent that Amorim was not going to be in the dugout for United’s Premier League match against Chelsea this weekend, which took some pressure off, and although there was a Hope that Sporting would release the 39-year-old early, that didn’t happen either.

“In these circumstances, Old Trafford officials believe they have been left with a satisfactory situation which allows Ruud van Nistelrooy to remain in charge for a further three home games and the new player’s first match at Ipswich on November 24.”
