“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was commenced until ambulance personnel arrived, but unfortunately the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The PSNI is appealing to anyone who was driving on Cullaville Road at the time of the collision, or anyone who witnessed the crash, to contact officers.

They also use images from on-board cameras.

Cullaville Road remains closed.

Newry, Morne and Down Slieve Gullion councilor Aoife Finnegan said it was “very sad news” and urged motorists to avoid the area while the road is closed.
