Fed rate cut brings ‘relief’ to Asian markets as STI hits 17-year high, but long-term uncertainty under Trump remains

Observers expect volatility in the markets until the new president’s policies are clearer.

The latest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve is expected to bring “some relief” to Asian and Singaporean stock markets, with increases for the real estate and consumer sectors.

However, the long-term outlook for markets ahead of a Donald Trump presidency remains uncertain, analysts said Friday (November 8).

The benchmark Straits Times Index rose 1.4 per cent to end at 3,724.37. The last time it closed at this level was in October 2007, just before hitting an all-time high of 3,906.16 in the same month.
